meteorologist mike augustyniak of our cbs station wcco who says the northeast could get a nasty surprise at the end of this cold snap. >> good morning, charlie and norah. the coldest air has moved just to the east this morning. it's across the northeast after giving chicago its first subzero low yesterday in over 7 hundred days. we've now got single digits in detroit, pittsburgh, below zero in burlington. factor in the wind and it feels like 20 below there. 4 below in boston and 5 below in pittsburgh. the story is not much better for tomorrow. the overall weather pattern won't change with the cold stuff settled in the northeast and back in the midwest tomorrow as well. the jet stream, the storm highway is going to have to reconfigure until we get a warmup and by the weekend it could be happening. as that is happening there could be several inches of snow moving toward the mid-atlantic and toward boston. nothing like the snow and cold air that fell in the last couple of days. almost 2 feet in parts of new york and 6 to 8 inches in the western shores and lake superior. fo

strategist in 2000 and then mike murphy republican strategist in 2008, said the republican party cannot survive if it doesn't find an inroad to hispanic voters. now the election results have spoken louder than those two strategists, and the entire party -- not the entire party, but a lot of those loud voices have come on board with this idea. you've had a moment here where both parties are anxious to see this. >> can you believe the common ground will lead to a successful legislation? >> well the way things are now, you have to be skeptical about progress but you do have republicans who want a deal here. now the question is on the details. and the key here is one to watch. why won't this be liking the immigration process in the past the one the raegeagans had, and that is what makes people skeptical. the worry is that you give what the republicans call amnesty but no enforcement. you get the politically beneficial part, the part that allows these undocumented workers to come in out of the shadows, but you don't enforce the border measures that keep more people

sports director dennis o'donnell, vern glenn, michelle griego and mike sugerman. >>> there's a manhunt in the east bay tonight stemming from a deadly police chase in oakland. police pursued a stolen car early this morning starting on interstate 80 at barrett avenue. the chase lasted 15 minutes. at one point the car was going the wrong way on 580. finally it ended up after the car drove off the road and hit a tree in the oakland hills. police say 8 people were in that car one of them died. police say he is 19 years old. the rest were taken to the hospital or jail. police are looking for one person in the car who ran away. >>> well, another gun buy-back program here in the bay area produced another large turnout. like other recent buy-backs the offer of catch for firearms was an incentive but as cbs 5 reporter patrick sedillo shows us, one prominent victim of gun violence says people are rethinking gun ownership. >> we had every hope it was going to be a turnout like this. >>> reporter: the cars lined up for blocks for the san mateo gun buy-back. >> h
